Colorful Estes Park, Colorado Wedding
by Christina Child

When I attended this colorful Estes Park, Colorado wedding last summer I knew it was destined to be featured on the WedPics blog.  Kellie and Rob are *personal friends who live in Vail with their two adorable dogs.  I can say, without a doubt, that this is one of the most beautiful, expertly curated weddings I've ever had the privilege to attend.

Kellie and Rob were roommates in Vail before quickly realizing they were falling for each other.  Four years later they tied the knot in a July ceremony at Della Terra Mountain Chateau in Estes Park, which boasts stunning mountains views and a spectacular outdoor & reception space.  Every detail of this this gorgeous wedding was brought together with impeccable style, from the custom watercolor invitation suite, eclectic furniture, table settings, and AMAZING floral arrangements that hung from the reception hall ceiling in hand-crafted macrame hangers.  These two surprised guests with late night Blizzards from Dairy Queen, and closed the night with a hot tub party.

On the wedding day Rob gave the maid of honor a handful of Alex & Ani bracelets to surprise Kellie with throughout the getting ready and first look phase of the day.  She says she wears one or two every day as a fun reminder of the best day ever :)

Kellie's bridal advice is to have fun planning the wedding and not take it for granted because you only get to do it once! "It will turn out magically no matter what because you're standing next to your best friend in marriage."

The wedding was photographed by Laura Murray Photography and wedding planning/design was provided by Milk Glass Productions.

*Fun fact: One of the dresses that was pulled for me during a recent dress consultation was Kellie's exact reception dress :)  Thank you Kellie for allowing me to feature your wedding - you are a beautiful soul, both inside and out (and I can't wait to see you at my wedding in October!).

5 Things I Learned as a Hired Bridesmaid by Jen Glantz
by Christina Child

We're thrilled to have Jen Glantz of Bridesmaids for Hire back as a contributor to the Wedding Party blog!  In this installment she shares five things she's learned as a hired bridesmaid... Enjoy!

When I started Bridesmaid for Hire, two years ago, I never imagined that the strangers who welcomed me as a part of their wedding day would be the people to rock my view on life, love, and the endless pursuit of happiness. I also never imagined that working weddings, as a professional bridesmaid would completely shake up the fairy tale view I held onto for years about how my own wedding would look one day when I finally locked arms with the man of my dreams. After watching over 40 couples say I Do, some stomping on glass to kick off the marriage, and others just swapping a kiss, I’m ready to share with you the top 5 things I have learned so far as a hired bridesmaid.

1. Bridesmaids Need to Chill Being a bridesmaid is no easy feat and often times it’s a role that’ll cost you too much money, time, and a bit of sanity. But the easiest way to make it through your own personal bridesmaid adventure is to realize that the wedding you’re about to walk down the aisle at isn’t your special day, so you may be asked to do things and wear things and go places that you don’t particularly fancy. If all of that bothers you from the start, skip out on being a bridesmaid and instead be the ultimate wedding guest. If you’re okay with giving up a few of your weekends here and there and wearing a polyester dress you never dreamed of wearing, even in your worst nightmares, then leave your negativity, eye rolls, and even bridesmaidzilla attitude at home.

2. Laughter Cures All The morning of the wedding, when the bride is getting her glam on, and the wedding vendors are off making everything look like her not so hidden Pinterest board, things can and will feel stressful. The best thing anyone near the bride can do is make her laugh. It’s free, easy, and truly the only way to survive the hours before it’s time to walk down the aisle.

3. Old School Traditions Need to End If you don’t know why or don’t like why you “should” wear white to your wedding, toss the bouquet, or wear a veil, it’s okay to leave it out of your celebration. Old school traditions are old. Plan the wedding of your dreams, even if those dreams are a bit wild from any wedding you’ve ever been to before.

4. Weddings are Expensive When I’d go to friend’s weddings as a bridesmaid, I never knew how much of a tab they ran up to throw such a lavish party for 8-hours. But working with brides closely and seeing how much they spend on the venue and their vendors has made me realize that weddings cost more than most people pay for a car, a down payment on a house, or to attend college for four years and that is just oddly ridiculous.

5. People Get Married for Reasons Other Than Love It’s the truth, sometimes. I’ve seen it all. Extreme cases of cold feet. Brides admitting they aren’t marrying “the one” but just anyone. And even once a bride who told me that she was marrying a guy that was gay for reasons that didn’t quite make the most sense to me (you can read that whole story here).

Jen is the author of the new book Always a Bridesmaid (For Hire) and the founder of the head-turning business, Bridesmaid for Hire. She can often be spotted wearing old bridesmaid dresses to the grocery store or on first dates. You can follow her adventure here.

The 6 Types of Bridesmaids
by Alexis

Bridesmaids.jpeg much love, so much history, so many...personalities! Any of these sound familiar?

1) The Planner

This chick is all about some details. She’s got the bridal shower planned to a T. She’s got hand sanitizer and bobby pins at the ready. Your little brother needs a tissue? Girl has got a monogrammed handkerchief for those boogies. Reliable and detailed, this one has got your back.

2) The Partier

Also has your back…as in, holding your hair…on Bachelorette night...over a toilet.  She knows how to make the group have a fab night including blinking crowns, limo rides, and body shots. This girl will be your right hand lady when it comes to a whiskey shot before the rehearsal dinner, and practically bonging red wine with your future mother-in-law so you don’t have to hear that you can’t cook 23524579 more times. She is the Goose to your Maverick.

3) The Go-With-The-Flow Friend

The accessory to every Bachelorette party crime. Always keeps her cool, thereby calming you down- especially as you begin to question if it’s all worth it after your great aunt insists that all pollen be removed from the property 15 minutes before you're to walk down the aisle.  She's the one that gives you the reassuring "wink" as you walk down the aisle...letting you know everything is going will be perfect!  Calm, cool & collected.

4) The Consummate Pain in the Ass

The dresses suck, they hate chocolate cake, Bachelorette parties should be at Disney World, and The Partier came to the rehearsal dinner drunk- how dare she? She may be a bit of a Debbie Downer, but you love her and on your big day she will be right there to assist The Planner, and sober up The Partier.

5) The Sister-in-Law

This one can go either way as to her level of joy and excitement during your wedding planning. But, as you are going to be seeing more of this chick on more frequent, stressful days (Yes, I am referring to you, Thanksgiving) this level of bonding is necessary. Believe me, nothing will strengthen a bond more than this mash-up of a family experience and you will come out with a stronger relationship as a result.

6) The Mom (aka "The Wildcard")

She's your bestie from college.  And also has three of those being her slack husband.  This can really go in 1 of 2 directions. On Bachelorette weekend, she could spend the entire time boo-hooing, missing her family and spending 100% of her time FaceTiming her little devils.  OR not... and instead she spends 100% of her time facetiming bottomless fish bowls filled every liquor imaginable.  If it's the latter, expect Bloody Mary's at 6:00AM (complimented with Mickey Mouse pancakes), midmorning tequila shots, beers at noon and the aforementioned fishbowls the rest of the day/night.   The presence of "The Wildcard" quadruples the chances of someone spending a night in jail.  Planning accordingly (ie. bail money).

The bond with your bridesmaids is a very special one.  You have chosen these women to be in pictures that last forever, calm your anxiety, and stand with you as you marry your BFF for life.  Happy Wedding!

From the Bride:

After our love survived two last years of high school, a year of long distance dating, several near death encounters upon mountain tops, two crazy summers filled with insane work schedules, and a school year spent in Denver, Nate proposed atop the same mountain where he asked me to be his girlfriend.

"Our post-wedding happily-ever-after includes plans for a cross country road trip, many early morning coffee dates, revamping our tiny apartment, spur of the moment city park picnics, mountain climbing adventures, late night popcorn binges, and lots of quality family and friend time. You can find the entire proposal story where Nate lost the ring on my personal blog."

How blissfully happy do they look? We can't get enough of those jaw-dropping portraits in the woods — Brumley And Wells are truly amazing when it comes to capturing stunning wedding moments! Congrats to Amber and Nate!

by Stephanie

There's nothing more idyllic than a beautiful, sunlit evening on a waterfront in the summer months — except, of course, if you're celebrating a stunning wedding at the same time! Jennifer and Micheal took advantage of the gorgeous summer months in British Columbia to celebrate their wedding day, which was complete perfection from start to finish. Taking place at the Poet's Cove Resort on Pender Island, this romantic waterfront wedding was filled with touches of emerald, a glamorous bride and lots of love and happiness between the couple and their guests!

Jennifer, a graphic designer, even created their invitations and programs — which I have to say is some of the prettiest and most unique wedding paper goods I've seen in a while! Read on to see more of the bride's beautiful wedding day style, their memorable waterfront wedding and stunning photos by Taryn Baxter!

How fun does their wedding reception look? Jennifer and Michael definitely had a wedding day celebration for the books. Congrats to the happy couple, and thanks to Taryn Baxter for sharing!
