Well it's official -- the clock is quickly winding down on 2014, and a brand new year is just around the corner. Call me a little nostalgic, but I love looking back on a year that's gone by and picking out my favorites. In fact, I like it so much that I'll be doing a little blog series from now until 2015, picking out the very best in weddings for 2014. Get ready brides: the Best of Weddings awards (BOW awards for short, how cute is that?) starts now!

First order of business: rounding up the most gorgeous wedding dresses of 2014. Because who doesn't want to kick off a series with an awesome topic like wedding dresses, right? Read on to see the very best dresses of 2014 and the fearlessly stylish brides who rocked them!

Best lace wedding dress

We're head over heels in love with this custom lace wedding dress with sheer sleeves and a delicate but gorgeous train. It was totally perfect for this Napa bride's chic winery celebration! And based on the number of times this pretty dress was re-pinned on Pinterest, we get the feeling you brides really love it too!

Best backless wedding dress

2014 was definitely the year of the backless wedding dress, and while I can't stay this is my favorite wedding dress style ever,  it definitely does make quite a statement! This beautiful bride totally killed it in this couture backless wedding dress with pretty lace detail and a jaw-dropping train.

Best strapless wedding dress

While this certainly was a huge year for emerging wedding dress trends (illusion necklines and long sleeves, anyone?) there's no doubt in my mind that the strapless wedding dress still reigns supreme. But how to find the best strapless wedding dress among the hundreds of thousands out there? Uniqueness is key! We love this classic yet stunning strapless dress by Sareh Nouri, which balances an elegant and feminine style with a hint of sexiness.

Best boho wedding dress

Boho brides took the wedding scene by storm! The hallmark of a boho bride of course, being a gorgeous lace or vintage-inspired dress that's as effortless as it is beautiful. Our favorite has to be this bride who paired a pretty boho lace strapless dress with a vintage belt and pretty flower crown. Plus, her dramatic and gorgeous flower tattoo on her shoulder just adds that extra boho touch to make this look our favorite of 2014!

Best new classic wedding dress

With all the gorgeous new wedding dress styles of 2014, one could say that the standards for a new classic type of wedding dress is shifting. While a classic wedding dress will always be white, a bit full-skirted and a bit more covered up, it looks a little different from year to year. This year, a new classic emerged -- the playful wedding dress with a vintage-inspired lace top and full tulle skirt.  In particular, I love this bride's classically elegant but modern wedding dress paired with her simple bridal bouquet. This look is a winner!

Best long sleeved wedding dress

This bride's gorgeous and ethereal long sleeved wedding dress is the thing wedding dreams are made of! The delicate lace looks oh-so pretty and almost magical on this beautiful bride, and is made even more effortless with her loose wavy locks and natural makeup. While there were definitely tons of jaw-dropping long sleeved wedding dresses this year, I do have to say this is 100% my favorite!

Best nontraditional wedding dress

Let's face it: traditional wedding dresses aren't for everyone! This was a big year for the anti-brides, who were looking for ways to make their celebration less about tradition and more about having an authentic, unique celebration. From flirty floral printed wedding dresses to bright colors and unexpected lengths, nontraditional wedding dresses were everywhere this year. The best one, though, has to be this quirky bride's purple floral printed wedding dress with an elegant mermaid shape!

Best celebrity wedding dress

This was a hard choice but hey -- only one celeb bride could win the honor of having the best wedding dress this year! And the honor goes to modern style icon Olivia Palermo, who surprised everyone with her bold choice in a wedding sweater and tulle skirt by Carolina Herrera. Call it the Olivia Palermo effect, but her unique wedding style launched the whole bridal separates trend, which was all over the runways this year at Bridal Market -- proof that her look was an absolute trend setter!

Best tea-length wedding dress

Not all brides feel that the traditional floor-length wedding dress is for them, and in 2014 more brides than ever opted for a more playful and casual wedding look with tea-length wedding dresses. While these sweet frocks come in all types of styles, the favorite has be the all-lace tea-length wedding dress creation by Leanne Marshall, creator of bridal boutique Leanimal on Etsy. It doesn't get better than this demure but oh-so-bridal short wedding dress look!

Best wedding dress separate

Again, I'm borrowing a page from Olivia Palermo's book here, but since bridal separates is quickly become the new it-look for brides everywhere, I had to choose the best wedding dress separate look for 2014! While there's almost an unlimited supply of gorgeous ideas for brides to be inspired by, I have to say that this elegant and offbeat look just nails it. With a casual lace top and ethereal ice blue skirt, this beautiful bridal look would look amazing on any bride looking for something different on the big day!

Well brides -- there you have it! The most gorgeous wedding dresses of 2014, in all their glory. If you got married this year, which of these styles did you decide on for your bridal look? Or, if you're getting married next year, what kind of wedding dress will you be wearing? Let me know in the comments, and remember to Pin your favorite for some extra inspiration!
